The City Circle, in conjunction with Abrar Foundation, is hosting a book launch for 'Islam and Global Dialogue: Religious Pluralism and the Pursuit of Peace', edited by Dr Roger Boase, with Foreword by HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal.
We will be debating religion, pluralism, war and peace. The key question to be discussed is: "What role can religion play in promoting global peace rather than war, terrorism, and other forms of violence?"
We shall consider the different possible responses to the phenomenon of religious diversity (exclusivism, inclusivism and pluralism), the need for a dialogue of civilisations, and the idea of a global ethic based on shared values.
Speakers:
Dan Plesch, a well-known commentator on US foreign policy and the 'war on terror', author of The Beauty Queen's Guide to World Peace (2004).
Tony Bayfield, Chief Executive of the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain, Director of The Sternberg Centre for Judaism, and a Co-President of the Council of Christians and Jews, editor of the MANNA: The Voice of Living Judaism, author of He Kissed Him and They Wept (2001), and joint author of Dialogue with a Difference (1992).
Marcus Braybrooke, President of the World Congress of Faiths, co-founder of the Three Faiths Forum, and author of Faith and Interfaith in a Global Age (1998), Christian-Jewish Dialogue (2000), What We Can Learn from Islam (2002), 1000 World Prayers (2003), and with Kamran Mofid, Sustaining the Common Good: Bringing Economics and Theology Together (2005).
