As a contribution towards national Islam Awareness Week 2005( Nov 21 - 27) St Ethelburgas presents an inter-faith cultural event which aims to promote debate and understanding between Christianity and Islam.

Screening of the Iranian film "Maryam" (St Mary)
112 mins In Farsi with English subtitles
The story of Mary as portrayed in the Qur'an - filmed in epic widescreen style in Iran. Followed by panel discussion with Christians and Muslims about how Mary is presented in the two traditions.
For Christians, it may come as a surprise to find that story of the Virgin Mary appears in the Qur'an. Some parts (e.g. the Annunciation) are very similar to account in the Bible. Other (the birth of Jesus) intriguingly different. Mary herself is shown as strong figure, not afraid to challenge the religious authorities of the temple.
