20 Apr 2005 - Have your say on two major changes
The government want to create a single equalities body, which means the abolition of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), Disability Rights Commission (DRC) and the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC). Race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and human rights will all be under one roof. A Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) White Paper Fairness for All is currently out for consultation. The closing date for responses is 6 August 2004.
The government are also consulting on an overall diversity strategy covering citizenship, integration and cohesion. This paper, called Strength in Diversity will result in a government-wide equalities strategy. The closing date for responses is 17 September 2004.
