The Racial and Religious Hatred Bill 2005-06 was published on 9 June 2005 and received its second reading on 21 June 2005. The Bill brings back to Parliament provisions that were included in the Serious Organised Crime and Police Bill 2004-05 but dropped before the general election in May 2005 in order to secure the passage of that Bill.
The bill received a second reading by 303 votes to 247 - a government majority of 56 - and will now go on to its committee stage.
